When I received an ARC for Brenna Aubrey’s “At Any Turn” I have to admit I squealed… just a little. Okay, maybe a little more than a little. I loved the first book in the series, “At Any Price” and I’ve been not so patiently waiting to read the second installment.

Then I opened the book and I looked at it. Ugh. Oh, no! It can’t be true, I thought. Brenna seriously didn’t do this to me! She wrote the book in Adam’s point of view. Oh. Holy. Hotness. Batman. Then I really squealed. I loved that I got to see the events through Adam’s eyes, know his thoughts, feel his emotions. And his character had depth. Brenna did an excellent job writing Adam. I was drawn into his world immediately. And, oh that boy…he is book boyfriend material all the freakin’ way.

I did miss seeing things from Mia’s perspective at times. I think there were instances that her character could have shown a little more emotion, or feeling so the reader knew what her “verbal tone” or body language was. Sometimes I had trouble figuring it out, but in some cases I could tell that is what the author was aiming for and she nailed it. Mia is fighting some pretty big demons in “At Any Turn” and some of the decisions she makes, like any normal person, are stupid. And I wanted to bonk her upside the head. But her character was written so well. I could see the change from the first book to the second, which was a very important aspect of this story.

Brenna Aubrey’s writing was easy to read. I love her style and voice. Her characters jump off the page and pull you into their world. The book was well thought out and flowed well, pacing was good. I just love this series and I really enjoyed that Brenna took a chance and wrote from Adam’s point of view. We don’t often get to see the workings of the male character’s mind.

Bottom Line: I love Brenna Aubrey’s writing and I love The Gaming System Series: “At Any Price” and the book I’m reviewing today “At Any Turn.” I highly recommend them. They aren’t just more formulaic new adult books. Brenna is a great story teller. So grab one of her books, sit back, and let her introduce you to a whole new world.

I am SO excited for the next book in the series…“At Any Moment!” Because, really, that ending? C’mon!
