Synopsis

I’ve been in love with a billionaire since the day I was born. Does that sound crazy?

See, I’m the unplanned illegitimate daughter of the full-time dance instructor on the Claremont estate. The Claremonts have two sons, Bennett and Quinn.

Quinn was my friend from the beginning. Easygoing and fun.
Bennett, was, well, Bennett. Studious. Serious. It was always obvious who would take over the family business.

When I left for dance school, my heart stayed behind with Quinn. It didn’t matter. By then, he was the definition of a playboy billionaire. Sexy. Irresistible. A girl a week. Nonstop vacations. Insanely expensive cars.

He always thought of me as a friend, which I tried to be. But I still loved him.

I decided that when I came back from New York, I would be somebody. An accomplished ballerina. Successful. Adored. And he would love me at last.

What I didn’t count on when I returned, though, is that both Quinn and his brother would still be living at the estate.

And that they would both be ready to fight.

For me.

I love it when I find an author who writes consistently good books. The type of author that, when given the chance to read/review their work, I don’t hesitate to say yes because I know it’ll be a book that will not only be written well, I’m almost guaranteed to enjoy it.

I know Deanna Roy from her Forever Series, which I read and reviewed. (Unfortunately, some of my reviews were lost in the shuffle when I switched from Blogger to WordPress, but you can still check out the few that survived the transition.) Even though I knew she had other books, some under a pseudonym, I haven’t read them… until now.

I was given the opportunity to read her newest book: The Billionaire’s Ballet. When I received the email I immediately hit reply and answered that I’d be happy to read the book. I didn’t bother reading the synopsis. From the title I figured someone was going to be rich and somewhere in the story dancing would play a part. Really, though, it’s a Deanna Roy book! I knew I’d enjoy it.

I liked the story in The Billionaire’s Ballet. It was new and fresh. And even though I’m not one that gravitates to the “billionaire” type stories, this one sucked me in.

First line:

When they wrote that song about the stars being big and bright in Texas, they were definitely talking about a night like this.

Okay, so, read this entire paragraph. Don’t stop when you see the dreaded words: Love Triangle. (I can almost hear your groans!) I know, I know! Love triangles are treated like carriers of the plague… most readers run from them. And, I admit, I wasn’t all that hyped when I thought there’d be one in the book—I was seriously rethinking that whole not-reading-the-synopsis thing.

BUT, lucky for me, there isn’t a love triangle. At least not in my opinion.

Yes, there is one girl. She’s a dancer and her mother is the “help” to the billionaire brothers’ family. I won’t go into detail about the plot. If you read my blog/reviews even a tiny bit you know I don’t like to rehash the story. You need to read the book to fully immerse yourself in the experience. So, no plot summary. But I will say that the girl (daughter of the help) and the brothers (sons of the billionaire) kind of grow up together in a weird sorta way that only the mega rich (or those who work for them) would completely understand. In her childhood, the daughter, Juliet, develops a crush on one of the brothers. And one of the brothers (Quinn and Barrett) develops feelings for her. It isn’t an angsty, someone-is-going-to-get-hurt type of love triangle.  But it is a weird little situation they find themselves in.

Like I’ve mentioned, I really enjoyed Billionaire Ballet. The story was new. I liked the contrast between the rich and their help. Don’t get me wrong, the family didn’t treat those who worked for them poorly. In fact, it was the opposite. But, still, there was a clear divide—figuratively and physically. The wall that Juliet would watch their parties behind gave a great visual of how she lived with Quinn and Barrett but was still kept on the outskirts of their lives.

I liked the characters. I can’t say there was one brother or the other that I rooted for throughout the story. Okay, well, that’s not entirely true. I did have my favorite brother and thought Juliet should be with him (there has to be a favorite, right?), but that doesn’t mean the other brother was a “villain.” I didn’t dislike him. In fact, he was quite charming. Juliet was likable. Although, I have to say that I didn’t find her remarkable. In fact, I didn’t find the three main characters as deep as those in the author’s Forever Series. I’m not sure why. Maybe because the subject matter in Billionaire Ballet isn’t as personally gut-wrenching as the books in the Forever Series. That being said, the characters are likable, with flaws and insecurities that’ll make most readers like them.

Secondary characters really weren’t present. There were a few scattered here and there, but they didn’t really add to the story. Juliet’s mother was the only exception to this. And even then, I still wanted more from her.

As usual with Deanna Roy’s books, the reader gets a clean copy. It’s free from major type-o’s, errors, and formatting gaffes. Mechanics were on point. The pacing was good. If anything, I would have liked it to slow down just a tad and explore Juliet’s relationship with the brothers a little deeper.

Favorite line:

My iPhone had more blocked numbers than a retired call girl.

Bottom line: Another great book from Deanna Roy! It’s a quick, swoony read that is perfect for a lazy Saturday at the beach or poolside. I definitely recommend checking out The Billionaire’s Ballet… or, really, any of Ms. Roy’s books!
