Synopsis

She’s addicted to sex. He’s addicted to booze…the only way out is rock bottom.

No one would suspect shy Lily Calloway’s biggest secret. While everyone is dancing at college bars, Lily stays in the bathroom. To get laid. Her compulsion leads her to one-night stands, steamy hookups and events she shamefully regrets. The only person who knows her secret happens to have one of his own.

Loren Hale’s best friend is his bottle of bourbon. Lily comes at a close second. For three years, they’ve pretended to be in a real relationship, hiding their addictions from their families. They’ve mastered the art of concealing flasks and random guys that filter in and out of their apartment.

But as they sink beneath the weight of their addictions, they cling harder to their destructive relationship and wonder if a life together, for real, is better than a lie. Strangers and family begin to infiltrate their guarded lives, and with new challenges, they realize they may not just be addicted to alcohol and sex.

Their real vice may be each other.

Raw. Gritty. Dirty. The nasty side of the upper echelon of society. “Addicted To You.” It’s surely going to be one of those books that people either love or hate.

I loved it.

You know I don’t like to give away story points in my reviews. That’s why you read the book, right? You don’t want me to tell you how it ends. That’s like giving you the score to the World Series you have recorded on your DVR. It kind of spoils the whole experience. But you get a good idea just from the synopsis of what “Addicted To You” is about. Addiction. He’s addicted to alcohol and she’s addicted to sex. Wow. That right there is a story in and of itself.

But “Addicted To You” is more than a tale of two people fighting their separate addictions. They are fighting their attraction to each other, for reasons I won’t go into (read the book, I say!). They are scared and ashamed to go to their families because they’ll “embarrass” them. Huh. I know all families aren’t perfect. My dad was a recovering alcoholic so I could relate to a lot of what Loran (Lo) was going through in the book, but it saddened me a great deal to see how distant their families were. Lily’s mother in particular, her social circle was more important to her than the daughter that didn’t “live up to standard.” Lo’s father was downright abusive at times.

So very sad and touching at the same time. Not only are Lo and Lily addicted to their vice of choice, they are, to put it mildly, addicted to each other. In a way that no one can truly understand. I found their relationship fascinating. I loved how the authors wrote the characters and how they reacted and fed off each other. One would push and the other would pull. One would tease and the other would soak it in, confused by what it all meant. Lo and Lily have a very complex, dysfunctional relationship—but it works for them in a weird, sad way. And, bottom line, they love each other deeply. Beyond their addictions, I believe. I say that with a little cringe because the entire series isn’t out yet and I HOPE I’m right and they finally are able to find a place where their addictions don’t consume them and they can have a peaceful happily ever after together. (Authors, are you reading this?)

So, did I like “Addicted To You?” Uh, yeah. I read it in a day and then promptly downloaded the companion novel “Ricochet” (Addicted 1.5) and read it the next day. I should have been editing or writing or something like that… but I consider reading a form of research, so it’s all good. As soon as I finished Ricochet I tried to download “Addicted For Now” (Addicted #2). The back of the first book said November 2013. It IS November 2013. But, no book. It doesn’t release until the 30th!! What in the double h#ll am I supposed to do until the 30th? I know what Lo and Lily would do… but I’m not going there. So I guess I’ll write and edit and pout until I get my hands on a copy of the next book in the series. Ugh, waiting is pure torture.

Bottom line: Definitely worth the time. Characters are well written. Plot is well thought out. But continue with caution, this is not a book that glosses over the world of addiction. You’re gonna get it like it is. And that’s what makes the book so great!
