Synopsis

Book 1
I was seventeen when I met Drake Gallagher.

Seventeen, naive, foolish…and in love.

Or so I thought. That summer, and the months that followed, set the course of my life.

Ten years later, I’m still struggling to put the pieces of me back to together.

It’s time to stop struggling. It’s time to take control…and maybe, it’s time for a little revenge.

He doesn’t have time for naive little virgins?

Well, I’m not naive anymore.

“The Virgin: Revenge” was a cute, fun read. I enjoyed the premise of the book. A grown-up version of jilted teen looking for revenge for past transgressions of her summer “boyfriend” and the person she sees as the one who ruined her family.

I liked the characters. They were done well. Not great. There was definitely room for more depth. Yes, the reader was told that Shannon was out for revenge. That she blamed Drake. That she hated him, loved him, wanted him, despised him, had all these conflicting emotions swirling through her—but it was never really shown in a deep personal sense that gave Shannon a real depth. The same with Drake. There was so much more room for character development. And this was needed considering there weren’t really any secondary characters to speak of.

The story itself was well developed and thought out. I enjoyed it a lot. I wish I would have realized the book was actually a novella, not a novel as I originally thought. There were areas of the story that could have been slowed down to create more tension between Shan and Drake, but since the book was a novella the story line was compressed and, in my opinion, missed some opportunities to explore the dynamics of the push and pull of the two main character’s relationship, especially before realization hit that Drake recognized Shan.

Bottom line: I liked J. Dallas’s writing style. I enjoyed the book a great deal. I wish, however, that it had been a novel rather than splitting it up into novellas. I think the work could have been taken in more directions. But, that being said, I’m not writing off the series. I enjoyed the first novella enough that I will more than likely seek out the remaining books in the series.
