Tag You’re It…

I’ve been tagged by the incredibly nice Nick Wilford.  Here are his questions and my answers.

1. Who is your favourite character of all time and why?
Nancy Drew.  The books really engaged me as a young child and kept me interested in reading.  A close second would be the boy (can’t remember his name) in Where The Red Fern Grows.  I loved the book.

2. When is your best time to write? Why?
The best time for me to write is at night when everyone is asleep, but I think that’s because I started out writing then (I was a closet writer).  Now that my kids are in school I’m trying to train myself to write during the day.

3. What do you think is the most underrated book of all time?
Hmm, that’s a tough one.  I don’t know.  I’ll get back to you when my book is released in July…it might be that one!

4. How would you feel if a book of yours was adapted into a massively successful film that far outstripped the popularity of your book?
Honored and a little validated.  I say validated because so many people look at writing as a hobby rather than a job.  Well, we all know it’s work – hard work.  Seeing a story I wrote brought to millions of people would definitely make people look differently when I tell them what I do.

5. What is your favourite cartoon?
Scooby Doo

6. What do you do if you get stuck at any point while writing?
Play catch with the door and a bouncy ball. 🙂  If it’s a really bad block I put it away for a while and do something else.

7. Toast, cereal or full-fat fry up in the morning?
Cereal

8. Describe how you feel when you first give someone else a piece of your writing to read (even if only a spouse or friend).
I feel naked and exposed.  I was a closet writer for many years.  No one knew I wrote, not even my husband.  I just wasn’t confident enough to share it.  So when I got “caught” and my family wanted to read what I’d written I felt very vulnerable.  But if it hadn’t been for them reading Concilium it would still be a file taking up space on my computer instead of scheduled for e-publication in July. So I owe them a lot.

9. If you were able to live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I’d go back to my home state of Michigan.

10. What one thing would you most like to achieve by the end of this year?
I’d like to have at least one person buy my book and love it so much they give it a great review on Goodreads and/or Amazon.  Of course, I’d love to have hundreds do that!

Okay, now for the fun part.  Here are the eleven victims people I’m tagging.  I’ll take my cue from Nick and nominate my most recent followers:

And the questions:

  1. What is your current WIP titled? How did you come up with the title?
  2. What is your favorite genre to read? Is that the genre you write?
  3. What do you snack on while writing?
  4. What music do you listen to while writing?
  5. Coffee or tea?
  6. Coke or Pepsi?
  7. How much time/effort do you put into developing secondary characters and who is your favorite?
  8. Who is your favorite character (in your writing)?
  9. Do you find it difficult to write from the antagonist’s viewpoint?
  10. What do you do if you’re out and you get a great idea for a scene?  Carry a notepad, recorder or the like?
  11. How many times have you been tagged in this game?  (I love the game by the way. Smile)

Great answers there, Michelle. I feel exactly the same when giving my wife something I've written – cold sweats, butterflies… I really value her opinion and feedback, as she's extremely well-read and has written a book herself. Funnily I don't feel the same when putting stuff online, maybe it's easier to read the opinions of (relative) "strangers". Good luck with your book!

Cold sweats and butterflies – yes, that sums it up. 🙂 She's a writer, too? That's very cool. You have each other to bounce ideas back and forth.

          Michelle 🙂

I've had to learn to write at night. I prefer mornings or even afternoons, but when my daughter gave up napping, I had to adjust.

          Hi Kelly,

It's hard to retrain our mind. My twins just started school so this is the first time I've ever been able to write (uninterrupted) during the day, but my mind still churns at night. I'd LOVE to get everything done during the day and get a good night's sleep! 🙂

I saw you finished another book in the Touch of Death trilogy – great job! You are fast!

          Michelle 🙂

Thanks for the tag, Michelle. Now I know what to blog about for Thursday!

I loved your answers, and have to say, I am sure more than one person will buy your book and give it a good review!

          Hi Mary –

Thanks. I love this type of stuff – some people don't but I like reading other's answers.

I'll be watching for your blog Thursday. 🙂
