Feature Friday: Roseblood

Feature Friday is a weekly post in which I highlight an upcoming release that I’m particularly looking forward to.   This week, my selection is…   Published January 10th, 2017 by Harry N. Hoping creative direction will help her, Rune’s mother sends her to a French arts conservatory for her senior year, located in an opera house rumored to […]

Gilded Cage

Gilded Cage

Gilded Cage by Vic James is set in a world where the Skilled, those with magical abilities, rule. The Unskilled are merely tolerated and, for at least a decade of their lives, work as slaves during their mandatory slave days.   Slave days are usually spent in slave towns. The conditions are horrible. Poor living conditions, poor and unsafe working conditions, not enough to eat, and just all around horribleness.   I thought this was a unique blend of dystopian and paranormal when the market for both can tend to become overly saturated with versions of the same type of […]

The Star Touched Queen

The Star Touched Queen

There are two main reasons I picked up The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi at my local library. First, the cover. Very seldom do I get sucked in by a cover. And while the cover isn’t the only reason I read the book, it did draw my attention to it. Second, and this is the real reason, I won the second book in the series, A Crown of Wishes, in a giveaway. I was told I didn’t need to read the first book to understand the second. My understanding is that they are more companion books rather than sequels that […]

Cinder

Cinder

I love fairytale retellings. But, to be honest, I didn’t think I’d like one that involved cyborgs. And that’s why it has taken me so long to read Cinder. A cyborg Cinderella? Really? How could I possibly get on board with that?   But, hey, I loved it. I mean, I’m not a big science fiction fan. I’m not even a huge fantasy fan (well, lately I have been). And I’m definitely not a cyborg fan. But I loved Cinder. Go figure. A cyborg Cinderella totally worked for me.   Meyer’s characters are well developed. Cinder has just enough snark […]

Queen of Shadows

Queen of Shadows

Queen of Shadows is the fourth book in Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series. The series has quickly become one of my favorites—along with thousands of other readers. I enjoyed Queen of Shadows more than I did Heir of Fire, book three. The action and intrigue starts on page one and doesn’t let up. It’s go, go, go. There’s a prison break, a courtesan and her young protégé saved, monsters killed, a prince , witches tortured, magic, a queen, kings, death, life, hope, and on, and on.   Characters, in my opinion, are one of the best aspects in […]

Three Dark Crowns

Three Dark Crowns

I’ve wanted to read Anna Dressed in Blood for so long. I don’t know why I haven’t yet. Life, I suppose. So, when I saw Three Dark Crowns one Saturday when I was with my twin daughters at the library, I snatched it up. It’s not Anna Dressed in Blood, but it is by the same author: Kendare Blake. And I’ve heard great things about her writing.   Let me start with the cover. It’s awesome. It’s simple, no fluff or flowers or loving gazes. Just three crowns on a dark background. At least that’s the cover of my edition. […]

Heir of Fire

Heir of Fire

Heir of Fire is the third book in Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass Series. This series has rapidly become one of my favorites and I’ve devoured the books as fast as I can get my hands on them, which is odd because I’m generally not a huge fantasy genre lover. I suppose I can’t really say that anymore, however. I’ve just finished Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake (awesome, btw) and now I’m starting Throne of Glass, book four: Queen of Shadows. I’m officially a fantasy genre convert.   I fell in love with the characters and world in […]

A Bond of Venom and Magic

A Bond of Venom and Magic

I have a special treat today. I’m chatting with author Karen Tomlinson! Her young adult fantasy, A Bond of Venom and Magic, released October 14th. I’m reading it now and it’s awesome; keep an eye on my blog for my review. So we all could get to know her a little better, I asked Karen to share 12 random facts about herself. Here’s what she had to say… I fell face first onto a rock when I was about 7 yrs old. I was on holiday in Cornwall. I broke my front teeth and have a scar on my chin […]

Crown of Midnight

Crown of Midnight

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas is the sequel to her breakout debut, Throne of Glass, her twisted take on the Cinderella fairy tale… glass slipper… glass castle. Unique and interesting, this series has quickly become one of my favorites.   Crown of Midnight picks up a few months after our heroine has won the King’s Champion position. The novel bursts into technicolor beginning with chapter one—when Celaena is performing her duties as King’s Champion and decapitating Lord Nirall—and continues with a breakneck pace of intrigue and creepy mystery until the very last page, when a secret was revealed so […]

Throne of Glass

Throne of Glass

So, I finally read Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. I don’t know why, but lately I’ve been on a bit of a fantasy kick. Which is odd, because fantasy isn’t normally my favorite go-to-genre. But I quite enjoyed Throne of Glass.   Before I get into my review, I have to say something about the cover. I really like the original artwork on the cover. Credit for the illustration is given to Talexi. It’s very different than a lot of YA novels’ covers. Although, I do find that fantasy novels usually have the most creative cover art. But […]

The Glittering Court (sneak peek)

The Glittering Court (sneak peek)

I enjoyed the sneak peek of The Glittering Court. It’s the first thing I’ve read by Richelle Mead. The storyline, so far, has been interesting and unique. It’s kind of a take-off of The Bachelorette, the Dating Game, and Survivor (without the filth and dinner of bugs).   It’s written well, aside from the occasional adverbs (huffily?). The characters are likeable, so far. Although the reader doesn’t find out too much about them. This may be intentional. Without reading the entire book it’s hard to know. I would like a little more physical description, especially of Adelaide. Also, the surroundings […]

Elixir Bound by Katie L. Carroll

Elixir Bound by Katie L. Carroll

I’m so thrilled to host one of my publishing sister’s blog tour stops. Elixir Bound by Katie Carroll is published through MuseItUp Publishing (where my first book was published!) and has recently been made available in both print and e-book formats. I have to say, when I read Katie’s bio it was an inspiration to me. Katie began writing at a very sad time in her life after her 16-year-old sister, Kylene, unexpectedly passed away. Since then writing has taken her to many wonderful places, real and imagined. She wrote Elixir Bound and the forthcoming Elixir Saved so Kylene could live on in the […]

Charmed Memories

Charmed Memories

Where to start? I have to say, I absolutely loved, LOVED, Mary’s debut Quest of the Hart. I thought it reached beyond the boundaries of being just another “young adult novel” in a pile of books. It was truly a story of growth and empowerment for teen girls. So I was very nervous going into Charmed Memories. I thought, “There’s no way she’s going to be able to top Quest of the Hart. Well, color me wrong.     Mary has a way of taking what a reader thinks is going to be a simple, fun story and turning it […]

Quest of the Hart

Quest of the Hart

I have been waiting not so patiently to read Mary Waibel’s debut young adult reverse fairy tale retelling since she told me about it months ago. I finally got my chance and all I can say is…it was definitely worth the wait. But I found one problem with the book. Quest of the Hart isn’t a story. It isn’t a fairy tale. It isn’t a young adult novel. Why? Because… It’s empowerment on paper. The story Mary weaved was not only entertaining, interesting and engaging, but also empowering for girls. Instead of the prince saving the helpless princess, the princess […]

Lex and Ember visit from Extracted by Tyler Jolley and Sherry Ficklin!!

Hey eveyone! I’ve got a treat for you today. I originally asked Tyler and Sherry for an interview about their new release, Extracted through Spencer Hill Press, releasing in November. But, Whoa! Did we get a surprise! Lex and Ember decided they wanted to be interviewed and pushed Sherry and Tyler out of the way…so I went with it. Here’s my interview with Lex and Ember of Extracted… Let’s cut to the chase, are either of you single? Ember – Um, I suppose not. Sort of. It’s complicated. Lex – Kiss and tell?  Not my style. Who’s your best friend […]
