The Thousandth Floor

The Thousandth Floor

Okay, so, I’ll admit that I picked up this book at my local library because of all the buzz about it. It made me a little curious and I thought I’d give it a try. And, I must say, I have mixed feelings about The Thousandth Floor, the debut novel by Katharine McGee.   I thought it would be more of a dystopian-thriller/mystery. I knew a girl would die and got the impression from the first story blurb I read for the book many months ago that there would be some type of investigation or something of the like. Instead […]

Queen of Shadows

Queen of Shadows

Queen of Shadows is the fourth book in Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series. The series has quickly become one of my favorites—along with thousands of other readers. I enjoyed Queen of Shadows more than I did Heir of Fire, book three. The action and intrigue starts on page one and doesn’t let up. It’s go, go, go. There’s a prison break, a courtesan and her young protégé saved, monsters killed, a prince , witches tortured, magic, a queen, kings, death, life, hope, and on, and on.   Characters, in my opinion, are one of the best aspects in […]

Three Dark Crowns

Three Dark Crowns

I’ve wanted to read Anna Dressed in Blood for so long. I don’t know why I haven’t yet. Life, I suppose. So, when I saw Three Dark Crowns one Saturday when I was with my twin daughters at the library, I snatched it up. It’s not Anna Dressed in Blood, but it is by the same author: Kendare Blake. And I’ve heard great things about her writing.   Let me start with the cover. It’s awesome. It’s simple, no fluff or flowers or loving gazes. Just three crowns on a dark background. At least that’s the cover of my edition. […]

Heir of Fire

Heir of Fire

Heir of Fire is the third book in Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass Series. This series has rapidly become one of my favorites and I’ve devoured the books as fast as I can get my hands on them, which is odd because I’m generally not a huge fantasy genre lover. I suppose I can’t really say that anymore, however. I’ve just finished Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake (awesome, btw) and now I’m starting Throne of Glass, book four: Queen of Shadows. I’m officially a fantasy genre convert.   I fell in love with the characters and world in […]

Crown of Midnight

Crown of Midnight

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas is the sequel to her breakout debut, Throne of Glass, her twisted take on the Cinderella fairy tale… glass slipper… glass castle. Unique and interesting, this series has quickly become one of my favorites.   Crown of Midnight picks up a few months after our heroine has won the King’s Champion position. The novel bursts into technicolor beginning with chapter one—when Celaena is performing her duties as King’s Champion and decapitating Lord Nirall—and continues with a breakneck pace of intrigue and creepy mystery until the very last page, when a secret was revealed so […]

Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart

Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart

Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart, by Tiffany Truitt, is a fun, sweet romance between Kennedy and Annabel. It was sometimes funny and emotional throughout.   First sentences: It Feels good out. The kind of cool that makes your skin tingle with anticipation. That odd in between place neither cold nor hot, comfortable, peaceful and exhilarating all at once. Something hard to define. Contradictory in its very nature.   The story is a take on second chances. Annabel and Kennedy started off as childhood friends. They were inseparable, each given the other what they needed at different times in their lives. […]

Switched by Cassie Mae

Switched by Cassie Mae

“Switched” by Cassie Mae is a cute, fun read. I enjoyed it a lot. I laughed out loud at in parts…my husband gave me a few odd looks.   The plot isn’t very original—friends trying to break-up another couple because they want to date them. However, it was so well written that I didn’t find it boring or repetitive. It held my interest and was entertaining.   I liked the characters for the most part. I thought they were well developed. However, I found Kayla to be immature for a college student. The story was told from her perspective, and […]

Three Broken Promises by Monica Murphy

Three Broken Promises by Monica Murphy

I was so excited to receive an ARC of Three Broken Promises by Monica Murphy. I loved “One Week Boyfriend” and I was sure I’d love this book too. And I wasn’t wrong. It was great.   The characters were wonderfully created. They had flaws, secrets, regrets that resulted in guilt and shame. These characteristics make characters relatable, believable. And Colin and Jen were characters that I was able to picture as people. A great accomplishment for an author.   Colin was a complex character. He had more depth than most male characters in new adult books. I liked his […]

Cover Reveal: Daughter of Isis, by Kelse..

Cover Reveal: Daughter of Isis, by Kelsey Ketch

I’m thrilled to participate in the cover reveal of Kelsey Ketch’s debut novel, The Daughter of Isis!  I’m really intrigued by this book. There are a lot of books on mythology, but not many based on Egyptian mythology. I am looking forward to seeing how Kelsey spins her tale around the Gods and Goddess of ancient Egypt. “Her mouth parted slightly, waiting for Seth to breathe life into her own body, just like in the story. She wanted him to awaken her senses.” Their worlds collide in California’s high desert. The last thing Natara “Natti” Stone wants to do is […]

The Darkest Part by Trisha Wolfe

It’s finally here! Trisha Wolfe’s new adult contemporary novel “The Darkest Part” has been released! If you’ve read anything by Trisha,  you already know this is going to be nothing short of amazing! From Goodreads: Pressing the boundaries of both the psyche and the heart, Sam and Holden embark on a dangerous journey that will test the limits of love. Sam Wintry’s life used to be almost perfect. She was engaged to her childhood best friend and high school sweetheart, Tyler Marks, planning an amazing cross-country honeymoon during her college break. Nearly Broken by Devon Ashley

Nearly Broken by Devon Ashley

“I methodically tugged at the bottom of my sleeves, pulling them down as far as they stretched, covering the horrors hidden beneath its thick cotton.” (First sentence, Nearly Broken) I liked Nearly Broken, but I’m not going to lie; the subject matter is dark, deep and very, very, emotional. Some people may be turned off by it. Others may learn something from it. And to others it may be freeing. I fell somewhere in the middle of the scale. It dealt with a subject I knew existed, but attributed it as “something that happens to someone else.” I never let […]

Romancing the R.A. by Ashelyn Drake

Romancing the R.A. by Ashelyn Drake

***Review***  Super cute, but I didn’t realize it was a novella until I started reading it. I thought Noelle’s feelings were a little “over the top” for just meeting Andy. A bit of insta-love. But still a super cute and quick read.   He’s stunned at first and doesn’t move. I start to pull away, thinking I’ve made a huge mistake, but then I feel Andy’s hand on my lower back, pulling me closer. His lips part, and he deepens the kiss. Every inch of me is on fire. Andy’s an incredible kisser, but the position we’re in is awkward. I reach my hands […]

Crush. Candy. Corpse.

Crush. Candy. Corpse.

Crush. Candy. Corpse. Isn’t a typical young adult book. I was completely taken by surprise when I started reading it. But I have to make this perfectly clear… I loved it. I think everyone should read it. But don’t go into thinking it’s going to be a sappy, romantic contemporary love story with a happily ever after ending like I did, because it isn’t and it won’t. This is a totally different experience. One that can potentially change lives. Crush. Candy. Corpse. Follows the court hearing of Sunny who is charged with murdering one of the Alzheimer patients she was […]

True

True

I enjoyed “True” more than I thought I would. I didn’t think I’d relate to the idea of “hiring” someone to sleep with your friend just so she could lose her virginity—and I was right. I didn’t. I thought that part of the story was completely out of place. It just didn’t fit. Setting someone up with a guy with the intention/hope that they might move on to that stage in their relationship, okay I can buy that. But hiring him? Hello, male gigolo. But what was worse than that was that Rory didn’t even confront her friends when she found […]

Dare You To by Katie McGarry

Dare You To by Katie McGarry

There are things happening in Dare You To on so many levels it makes writing a review difficult. I don’t want to give too much of the story away in my review. I want the reader to experience the full ride of emotions as they read the book. The characters have layers of emotions for the reader to examine; the story has so much depth to it, beyond what one would expect in a normal young adult romance. It’s quite a ride, but a great one!   Very briefly, the story centers on circumstances arising that require Beth to move […]

PODs Teaser Tuesday…

PODs Teaser Tuesday…

Okay, today is supposed to be Teaser Tuesday, but, honestly, I forgot. I’m still riding high from signing the contract from the PODs sequel “The Infected” and finishing the edits for PODs last night. Plus, hopefully, I’ll be sharing some more good news within the next month or so. In addition to forgetting, I’m having trouble finding areas of the book that I want to share. Everything feels like a spoiler to me. Maybe because it’s my book and I want everyone to be surprised when they read it.  But, anyway, here we go: “The rioters screamed and cursed us. […]
