T is for Taking a day off
How do you schedule your writing work week? Do you think of writing as your job? I mean, if we aspire to be full time writers one day we must look at it as a job. Maybe a job we love, but a job nonetheless. So do you treat it like one? Meaning, do you force yourself to do it even when you may not feel like it?
I read an author (can’t remember who, sorry) who said authors should write something everyday. Everyday. What do you think? Me? I try to. I feel guilty if I don’t! Sometimes I feel unfulfilled if I don’t, especially if I have things/ideas that I want to get down on paper. But even on days that I’m blank, that I don’t have any ideas, I still feel like I should write something. So I write drivel or I write in my journal. Like I mentioned, I feel guilty Taking a day off.
How do you handle taking days off? Is it easy for you? Can you schedule when you’ll take a day and stick to that schedule? Or are there days when you just have to write regardless if it should be a day you have off?
Okay, back to work for me. This isn’t a day I’m taking-off. 🙂
Until “U,”

I take days off. I think if you don't, you're going to get burnt out.

That's a good question. I have days off when other things take over. Like today I had a meeting at work (outside work hours) then I'm back in tonight – so no writing today, and hastily catching up with blogs.
Tomorrow is coffee with a friend, the day after out with Hubby. Which means the whole week is written off. I feel jumpy about not writing, as I'm at the very beginning of a new idea and I'm afraid I'll forget, but that's just how it happens. I like the freedom that not working 9-5 gives me, so why would I make myself a 9-5 (or 10-3 etc) schedule?

Today was a no writing day for me, as well. I just sat down to write when I got a frantic call from my mother. We had to rush my dad into emergency. He was disoriented, couldn't walk, couldn't hold anything and hadn't been able to or use the bathroom since the day before. By the time he got to the hospital his blood pressure was only 78/32 and he was in kidney failure. So today was definitely a day off and tomorrow will be too. But that's okay. My family is more important. 🙂
